Music Monday: Never Gonna Get the Final Boss Tamed

The final boss battle–the moment that an entire game leads up to. You’ve been anticipating, maybe even dreading, that final confrontation with the baddest bad guy throughout the whole game. Now it’s here, and you finally have to face your fear and battle your nemesis.
In a lot of games, the soundtrack plays a big part in the tension-building–both before and during the battle-to-end-all-battles. This week, we’re going to listen to some classic examples of this. Enjoy, and feel the dread!
Zelda: A Link to the Past–Agahnim’s Theme
Super Mario Bros.–Castle Theme/Bowser Theme
Final Fantasy IV (II)–Zeromus Boss Battle
Ikaruga–Butsutekkai (Boss Battle)
Kirby’s Dream Land 2–It’s Boss Time!
Pokemon Red/Blue–The Last Road
Donkey Kong Country 3–Final Boss Theme

This is the only way I was ever going to end up hearing the music from the end of Ikaruga. That game is insane.
Great choices, but no Dancing Mad?!
Justin–that’s a great example! I’m not familiar with FFVI at all, but if I was, that one certainly would have made the list!
Stephen–that’s not even the end battle music. That’s the music from the first boss. That’s how intense that game is. I’m only familiar with it because my husband tried for a perfect run on Chapter 1 for months. Difficult game is difficult :/
@Meagan Bickell: Not familiar with FFVI!!!
You must play that game when you’ve got a chance to. Many, myself included, consider it the best in the series.
Justin–indeed. I never got into FF when I was a kid, but I’ve been trying to rectify that in recent years. I played FFI on PSP a few years ago. Been meaning to start the next one. I’ll get to VI eventually, I promise!
