GOG.com has a Badass Sale Going this Weekend
In addition to bringing some of the all time classic PC games into the 21st century and championing DRM-free digital distribution, GOG.com runs some pretty sweet sales.
This weekend they have a selection of Square Enix (read: late ’90s through mid ’00s Eidos) games on sale at 60 percent off.
And there’s really something for everyone. Want to see the origins of stealth systems used in games today? Check out the Thief or Hitman games. Or maybe you want an RPG that plays like JRPGs, but was developed in the west, so the dialog makes a bit more sense, and isn’t all mopey or full of amnesiac teenagers. If so, Anachronox is for you. Or maybe you remember a time before vampiers were all sparkly and prancing around, and spent their time more on death and destruction than awkward high-school melodrama. The Legacy of Kain games have just what you’re looking for.
Here’s the list:
- Thief Gold
- Thief 2: The Metal Age
- Thief 3: Deadly Shadows
- Conflict: Desert Storm
- Deus Ex: GotY Edition
- Deus Ex: Invisible War
- Hitman: Codename 47
- Hitman 2: Silent Assassin
- Anachronox
- Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver
- Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver 2
- Legacy of Kain: Defiance
- Tomb Raider 1+2+3 (this is one package)
- Tomb Raider: The Last Revelation+Chronicles (same as above)
- Tomb Raider: Angel of Darkness
- Pandemonium!
There’s a bit more GOG sale news though, as Perimeter and Soldiers: Heros of World War II are also on sale, but under less happy circumstances. Due to wierd licensing issues (that they don’t fully explain) GOG is loosing the rights to sell these two great strategy games Monday morning.
In order to send them out with a bang (and get a few bucks on their way out) GOG has these two on sale at 66 percent off this weekend.
These aren’t the first games to disappear from GOG’s catalog. Some have come back, some haven’t. It’s a bit of a toss up.
If you do pick them up, I’d suggest downloading and backing them up. From past experience, most games that disappear from the catalog remain on your account, but I wouldn’t trust it.
And hey, as long as you do have a backup copy, you have a great argument for why DRM-free games are such a good thing in the first place.
