Tecmo Super Bowl 2013 is Out
The 2012-2013 NFL season kicked off tonight, and what better way to celebrate than with this year’s edition of the best football game going. No, not the frat boy fav Madden. I’m talking Tecmo Super Bowl 2013.
Sure, Tecmo hasn’t made a football game with the NFL licence in nearly two decades, but that hasn’t stopped fans of the NES classic from making their own.
Tecmo Super Bowl 2013 is a ROM hack of 1991′s Tecmo Super Bowl for the NES. In a field usually inhabited by 14-year-olds replacing the sprites in Super Mario Bros. with dicks and pot leaves, the team at TecmoBowl.org has carefully edited team names, cities, logos and rosters to reflect the current NFL, while keeping the timeless gameplay of the original intact.
They even made one of last season’s breakout players, Rob Gronkowski, their cover athlete.
The ROM is free to download from the group’s site, and you’ll need any relatively current NES emulator to play it (they have links to one that works on the site if your’s doesn’t like ROM hacks for whatever reason).
