Weekly Nuke Wrap-Up: Diamond in the Rough
Hmm… not a lot of conversation on this topic. I guess everyone knows exactly what they’re getting, all the time.
Whatever. I just thought I’d throw my thoughts in here real quick before we figure out who gets a fabulous prize.
Two somewhat recent example for me would be The Ball and Xotic. I had no idea what to expect going in with either one, and ended up loving both of them. Heck, I gave one of my Game of the Year votes to Xotic last year.
The first response we got was from Adushan, who wrote of a game loved and lost:
So there I was, a 14 year old gamer, looking around a store for a new game. And there she was…Silver. Yeah, I didn’t know either. I was like,”I guess the graphics are okay.” So I tried it out and instantly loved it. It had a sword swinging mechanic that none since have improved upon. WASD moved you around, and the mouse controlled your sword. So you could MOVE RIGHT AND ATTACK LEFT!!! WTF!!
And like all good things, the game was taken from me. A ‘friend’ borrowed it, and I couldn’t see the ending.
I hate people.
Nicojay mentioned the original Burnout, P.N. 03, and Golden Axe: Beast Rider, but didn’t go into much detail. If you wan to write something longer on any or all of them, feel free to do so. I’ll probably go ahead and promote it. (And not just because I’m getting ready for Quakecon the week and I’m trying to scare up content).
Then a discussion broke out on why Outcast failed.
Anyway, the winner this week is Adushan. I’ll get in touch with you for your prize whenever I’ve got a free minute.

Wahoo! Thanks Hans!
I think next week’s topic should be along the line of ‘Failed technology’ or ‘Gaming Flops’.
