War of the Monsters Hits PSN Next Week

I don’t want to make a habit of promoting individual releases, especially not rereleases of PS2 games, but here I’m making an exception.

War of the Monsters is coming out next week, but all the posts I’m seeing are focusing on GTA3 dropping as well. I’m sorry, but that game’s been rereleased over and over to the point where it’s even on phones now.

I always loved War of the Monsters, and never thought it got enough credit. It clearly didn’t sell super well. I mean, pretty much every other Sony published PS2 game that did at least decent at retail got a Greatest Hits release, and this didn’t. (At least if my memory and a 30 second google search served me well.)

It’s one of the best real 3D fighting games (not just 2D with strafing) I’ve played, and it’s got a really cool style. Classic movie monsters, destructible environments, and a pretty solid fighting system make it fun both on your own or against friends. I’m not surprised it never main evented at EVO, but it’s still a really fun game.

I haven’t seen a price yet, but all the other PS2 classics (or whatever they call them) have been $9.99, so that’s a safe bet.

So if you’re looking for something a bit different, give it a shot.
