Quakecon 2012 Registration is Open

Actually, it opened yesterday. Oops. It looks like most of the paid super special best friends registration packs are sold out already, but unless you get in within a few minutes of reg going live, and make it through the server getting slammed, it’s hard to get that anyway. Free registration is still good to go though, and that’s the option I’ve always gone with.

If you’ve never been, Quakecon is a giant LAN party and gaming convention hosted in Dallas, TX (or some indistinguishable but still technically separate suburb) every August. This year, like most years recently, the Hilton Anatol will be playing host to several thousand gamers, PC modding enthusiast, and their functioning alcoholic friends. The convention officially runs from August 2-5, but many volunteers show up a little early to help with setup.

That’s one of the things I love about Quakecon. Even though it’s grown into a big, corporate sponsored event, the core of it is still run by volunteers who just want to get a bunch of people together for a weekend and play a ton of Quake.

I had to skip Quakecon last year due to scheduling conflicts being broke as hell (that’s what I get for majoring in journalism), but Nukezilla will be back in force this year. Expect photos, posts from the show, and possibly even my thoughts on Doom 4, assuming they finally decide to show it off after promising to two years ago, only to back out once they realized they were in over their heads with Rage. Or something like that.

So, anyone else going this year?
