The Weekly Nuke: Roleplaying

On Mikular’s recommendation, I’ve started Listening to a D&D podcast, Critical Hit. It’s really good, and some of their antics had me thinking real hard about buying a couple of books and looking for a group. They get asked the same types of questions frequently, how to role-play, how to not do it, how to encourage others, etc. Being a rather confident person myself, I rarely have trouble falling into a role to play (and public speaking too, I’m pretty good at that) but I can understand people’s qualms with it.

The topic then naturally fell to videogames and I remembered something a friend once said to me: “Haha, I bet you play as a girl in your games don’t you?” He meant it as a pass at my being queer, but I often do, and it’s a fundamental part of how I make my characters that they be that way. And it actually made me question for a bit why I make my personae the way they are. At some point this week, I’ll describe my process, but I’d really like to hear how other people play in their games by “default,” I think it’ll be fun!

As a side note, feel free to have a wild guess which one up top I’d likely be. Hint: It’s not the obvious one.
