Minecraft Lego Set to be Released this Summer

The title says it all: we’ll be able to play with physical Minecraft blocks by summer, 2012.

It was only late last year that the idea was born, and already we have an expected date when it will fly away from the nest and into the loving arms of Lego- and Minecraft-lovers alike. There are already prototypes floating around, as featured in the video below.

I can’t even explain how hyped I am about this. I mean, say what you want about Minecraft Lego being redundant – I think it’s the most sensibly awesome thing to ever be thought of in the history of ever. Come summer, I will be building the shit out of some Minecraft-scapes while I giggle gleefully like a 4-year-old who just received a pony.

Faye Lanks Says:

Isn’t just Lego, technically mine craft Lego? Also, can I get in on the paid beta and get the real blocks when they’re released?

Ace Flibble Says:

I just don’t get what the point is, unless you really, really hate the oblong lego blocks.

Meagan Bickell Says:

@ Faye — Sort of, but now you’ll have the special blocks to really give it that extra Unph. Also, the tiny lego creepers are adorbz!

And I don’t think so about getting some for paying for the beta, but I don’t know that. Maybe they’ll offer a discount or special deal to paid players later *crossing fingers*

Meagan Bickell Says:

@ Ace — Well, then I guess Minecraft LEGO aren’t FOR you then ;)

I consider it like any other LEGO expansion. For example, you have the Pirates of the Caribbean LEGO where you can build the Black Pearl and Queen Anne and other ships. Technically, yes, you can build those with regular LEGO, but having the special pieces from the sets make your finished product all the more special and awesome. The Minecraft LEGO follow the same principle, plus, as I said to Faye,, that LEGO creeper is totes adorbz!

Edit: misspelled Faye’s name

Adushan Says:

LEGO is named from leg godt meaning “play well”.

Imagine if you could build an item in Minecraft, have it print out instructions for LEGO blocks, which you modify and tweak here and there, then scan it back into Minecraft to use and print out instructions for LEGO…

Faye Lanks Says:

@Adushan: Now THAT sounds like an amazing use for minecraft!

That video is freaking awesome.

Want. Here LEGO, have all my monies.
