Toki Tori 2 Developer Speculates on Plans For Wii U

Dutch developer Two Tribes has announced plans to bring Toki Tori 2 to Wii U, more than ten years since the original puzzle based platformer was released on the Game Boy Color.

Following Toki Tori’s success as a WiiWare launch title in 2008, the sequel is set to become one of the first downloadable games for Nintendo’s next console, Wii U.

Two Tribes said that it was Nintendo’s recently released information on a more “robust” online strategy that convinced the developer to bring Toki Tori 2 to Wii U:

The 3DS eShop has been a big step in the right direction compared to the Wii and DSi online shops, and it would be strange if they did not at least match it’s functionality on Wii U. Since Toki Tori 2 is designed to be a downloadable title, these things are vital to making the correct choice of which platforms to develop for.

Two Tribes continued by confirming that gamers would be able to play directly on the Wii U controller, without the need for a TV.  Enticing Toki Tori fans still further are plans to incorporate a level editor utilizing the controller.

This could mean that the game runs on the TV while you make adjustments to the level on the touchscreen in real time. We think that would work really well!

While tempering enthusiasm by stating this is “pure speculation at this point”, Toki Tori fans and Wii U owners will hopefully have plenty to look forward to with this sequel.
