The Vidya Gaem Awards happened today

As you may remember from a few weeks ago, The Vidya Gaem Awards sprouted up in response to the anual shame of the videogame industry, Spike TV’s VGAs.

Community members from 4chan’s /v/ banded together, nominated games, organized votes, filtered out and discarded votes from reddit, and produced a full scale (online) awards show.

Now the fruits of their labor are available to the public, in the form of an hour and 40 minute long 720p youtube video.

It’s not perfect, but what popularity contest awards ceremony is? It’s actually better produced than many of the major sites’ GOTY hooplas, and had the balls to take shots at some of the failings of the industry not named Duke Nukem Forever. Oh, they still shit on Duke, but there are almost as many negative awards as positive ones.

I’m posting the video below, but you might want to skip the first two or three minutes. It’s just countdown/timecode from a live broadcast. If you somehow aren’t familiar with 4chan, parts of this are probably NSFW. But then again, if you’re getting away with watching an hour and 40 minute awards show at work and the content is what gets you in trouble, you probably deserve it.

So congrats on a job well done to the guys and girls that made this happen, and hopefully they get to do another one next year.

EDIT: Well, it looks like that NSFW bit got the original cut of the awards taken down, but a new and improved (?) version is up now. I’ve fixed our link to reflect the change.

Meagan Bickell Says:

Spoiler alert in the frame above.

…just sayin’.

Hans Wuerflein Says:

I didn’t make youtube. Blame them.

Adushan Says:

You manky youtube. Just gimme the damn video!

If this fails Youtube’s nudity policy then what about Antidote by Swedish House Mafia? Spoiler, it starts with naked women, then shows pretty violent deaths.

I guess we draw the line at video games. Argh!

Hans Wuerflein Says:

Fixed the link to reflect the original getting banhammered and replaced with a slightly edited version.

Other award shows, are you even trying?
