Quakecon 2012 Dates Announced

On the weekend of August 2-5, 2012, PC gamers from all over the globe will descend upon Dallas, TX, like a flock of winged monkeys for an annual event known as Quakecon.
Since the Hilton Anatole in Dallas still seems to be fine with winged monkeys descending upon them, they’ll be allowing them to do so again this year for the four-day event.
Quakecon is open to the public and free of charge, but requires registration beforehand. You can do so online to save some time when you arrive. It sounds like they’ll be offering more paid packages, though, for gamers who want to speed through check-in, guarantee a spot for themselves in the BYOC (Bring-Your-Own-Computer) LAN (Local Area Network), and other things. More details will be released on their website about these packages later.
The biggest draw for Quakecon is always the giant BYOC LAN party, boasted to be “the largest free gaming LAN party in the world.” Pre-registering is a must for those who want to make sure to get a seat because space is limited.
There will be competitions held for those inclined towards that sort of thing that include Quake Live and Brink. Speakers and panelists will be featured, though no announcements have been made yet as to whom. There will also be an expo hall where sponsors will be giving away swag and prizes at their booths during the four-day event. And for those who need a break from gaming, the Dallas/Ft Worth area is fraught with fun and entertaining activities that may or may not include tasty adult beverages.
Quakecon is a fun event. If you’re looking for something to do that weekend I recommend going, especially if you’ve never been. Just be careful, stay cool, and remember — just because you’re not at home doesn’t mean your alcohol tolerance is any higher than normal.
…Not that I would know.

I’ve never played a Quake game; does that make e a bad person?
If it does, then I am, too.
