Official Mario and Zelda Songbooks for Piano, Guitar Now Available
Plenty of people have an appreciation for the music from videogames. Heck, we have a (more or less) weekly column built around it.
Some of the most recognizable and beloved pieces of music from any game have to be Koji Kondo‘s soundtracks to the Mario and Legend of Zelda games. Even as other composers have take over some of the musical duties on more recent series entries, Kondo’s influence, or even direct supervision is evident.
Many aspiring musicians, or kids whose parents forced them through years of music lessons, have wanted to play some of their favorite videogame tunes, but have always had to settle for so-so internet print outs or expensive, imported sheet music from Japan. Until now.
Alfred Music Publishing is now selling four official Nintendo song books: Super Mario Series for Guitar, Super Mario Series for Piano, Super Mario Series for Easy Piano, and The Legend of Zelda Series for Piano. The books range in price from $16.99 to $19.99, and the main Super Mario and Zelda Piano books are also available as downloads.
So, musically inclined readers, which one are you most excited about? Also, now that these are out, which games would you like to see official sheet music released for next?

not a musician, but it makes me want to be, this is cool! I fear it will homogenise the youtube “mario on piano” videos, though.
It’s missing the only one I would want, “The Legend of Zelda Series for Guitar”. Still cool news, though.
I wonder if the Mario guitar book utilises tapping, as seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBgMk4X9MzA
