Music Monday: Spooooooooooky Edition

Holy crap, you guys! It’s Halloween!

Even though I know tonight will be spent on door duty waiting for trick-or-treaters and munching on the candy I’m supposed to be saving for them while watching 80s horror flicks (or possibly playing Costume Quest), there’s always a small nostalgic part of me that wishes I was young enough to dress up and go begging door to door for candy.

So this week’s Music Monday is going to focus on music from horror-themed games, naturally. However, bowing to my Halloween nostalgia that refuses to die, I’m presenting music only from horror-themed games that were around when I was younger (sorry, Resident Evil and Silent Hill fans. Not this year). In fact, we’re going super old-school: NES only. Spooky chiptunes!

Main ThemeGhosts ‘n Goblins

Fun fact: When I was younger, I managed to beat a whole three levels of this game.

CabinFriday the 13th

Fun fact: The game’s better than at least three of the movie’s sequels. That’s not saying much.

Monster DanceCastlevania II: Simon’s Quest

Fun fact: WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE

Battle ThemeSweet Home

Fun fact: Sweet Home, considered to be the granddaddy of survival horror video games (Resident Evil was intended to be a remake), was never released outside of Japan due to its graphic content. A fan translated ROM is easily found online.

World of HorrorMonster Party

Fun fact: This game – which is fairly graphic at parts – somehow totally managed to make it past Nintendo of America’s censors.
