Music Monday: Where’s The Silver Surfer?

It’s always a pleasure to trawl through neighborhood garage sales looking for old gaming relics. Specifically, around my area, entire neighborhoods take two days out of the year to have garage sales. I was able to get my hands on a rather cheap SNES through one of these sales and, of course, a handful of games included. Aside from some games I was obsessed with in my youth (Super Mario World, Street Fighter 2, Killer Instinct), the system came packaged with Spider Man/X-Men: Arcade’s Revenge.
I knew nothing of this game before popping it into the system, but was instantly enticed. As you’ll hear in the following selections, the game’s music starts with an intense guitar riff, and just doesn’t stop. Yes, the game itself is just OK (platforming with a ridiculously high learning curve), but the music is phenomenal. The game is known for having some of the best music that the SNES could produce. The rock and roll mentality and the nods to older Marvel theme songs give the music a certain flair.
For your consideration, here’s today’s Music Monday, showing off the themes of Gambit, Spider Man, and everyone’s favorite Marvel hero, Title Screen.

Jealousy be my name…I never had a SNES or Genesis and it was rare to hear of people around here owning them. I’m infinitely glad we (South Africans) get the PS3, Wii and Xbox consoles and about 50% of their game libraries.
SNES music is some of the best music. Gotta love Spidey’s theme!
