The Weekly Nuke: GUYS. GUYS. Hey, Guys. Look What I Made! – Wrap Up

Well, I told you it was the best pillow ever. But rather than show it to you here, if you haven’t already seen it I highly recommend you wander over to Jenny’s excellent article where she explains all about how it came into being.
On The Forums
The forums were pretty quiet this week, but that’s okay because there was a whole load of other cool stuff to make up for it. Special mention must surely go to boolean’s game though:
Because I apparently have nothing better to do on my weekends, I decided to see if I could make a browser game in 24 hours. I’m starting to think I should have gone to the pub instead.
What he came up with is Click Your Life Away, a game that succeeds on so many levels that I think it deserves a little expanding upon here. In essence you get a white square, and clicking on the square awards you a point. After a while you notice that no matter where you click in the square, you get a point. The point is added to your previous point total that you can see on the leaderboard. There are several ways to click: the traditional left finger press, switching fingers, dropping the mouse from a height and so on, and the game recognises them all. It really has to be seen to be believed and it’s all wrapped around a brilliant but subtle social commentary about how people use their time.
Meanwhile, I reminisced about an old article I wrote over on Destructoid:
There’s the time that I built myself a fake NES out of cardboard with little sprites on sticks you could move around, because I was so excited about getting one.
That’s pretty much it for the forums this week, so let’s take a look at the front page.
On The Front Page
Starting us out early, Hans proves to us all not only that Pac Man brings families together, but also that ‘Happy Holidays’ is not in fact a recent sinister invention of a PC-crazy world, but a harmless greeting that has been around for years. Okay, I might have added that last bit myself.
That awesome pillow really can’t be mentioned enough so I might as well put in another plug for Jenny’s article about it.
Finally, I closed out the week with Surprised Man Speaks! which is what we’re now calling our monthly-ish Surprised Man Podcast, all about what we’ve been doing and what Indie games we’ve been making.

That’s our lot for this week, so check back later for a brand new topic. For the next week (or two) Jenny will be running the show as I get crazy busy with a double whammy of Eurogamer and Surprised Man related action.
