Extreme Escape Adventure Gets Photos, Trailer
Get used to this, people. I am all over this game.
As I reported back in August, the developers of one of my top games of 2010, 999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors were working on a follow-up that seemed to have the same premise as the original, without being an actual sequel. Over the past two weeks, a few screenshots and a trailer have been released (thanks, Siliconera!).
First off, let’s remember what the cast of 999 looked like:

And now, meet the cast of Extreme Escape Adventure: Good People Die:

So, you know…there’s a few similarities there. And I’m pretty sure that creepy rabbit thing on the left is going to function as Billy the puppet from the Saw movies, because otherwise the Nonary Game makes no sense with ten people. Also, it wouldn’t be particularly realistic to have a child-sized rabbit as a character, because despite the anime stereotypes present in 999, it was at least fairly realistic in the presentation of its characters.
We even have a few character descriptions released!
Sigma (fourth from the right): The protagonist of the game. “A college student who makes risque jokes”.
Phi (fifth from the right): A girl he meets in an elevator; she likes lying a lot.
Shortly after the cast photo was released, developer Chunsoft released a trailer for the game – which, thankfully, someone on YouTube has translated, so you have some idea what’s going on:
In case there was any sort of doubt that the core gameplay is any different from 999, the trailer even features a cameo of Zero from the first game!
From the trailer – and the fact that it’s the “Ambidex Edition” of the Nonary Game – it stands to reason that in Extreme Escape Adventure, you’ll actually have the option to work solo (“betrayal,” one would assume) to see how the game pans out differently; a direct departure from 999, which forced you into teamwork (which, of course, meant that you as the player did absolutely everything while your partners just stood around).
As mentioned in my previous news post, the game is being developed for the 3DS and the PlayStation Vita, with no set release date in Japan, and no official announcement of a North American or European port (come on, Aksys!).

Jenny has made me a 999 convert :) so I’m very much looking forward to this now. Hopefully it will make its way across to the UK.
