The Nukezilla Sunday Supplement – August 28th 2011
Every Sunday we’re going to post links to articles we think are interesting from the last week. Sundays are usually very quiet around here, so this seems like the best day to do it. We’re going to link to articles on range of subjects, including videogames, technology, movies, geek culture and much, much more.
Note: This Supplement will be my last! I’ve had to stop writing (for now), so the Supplement is going to have to come to an end. I hope you’ve enjoyed it as much as I have writing it! Will still be around though!
Videogames
The Top 10 Weird Children Of Video Games and Neuroscience – Gamasutra. ”Plenty of studies are being done which examine the effect gaming has on the brain, and independent developer and former neuroscience researcher Erin Robinson takes a look at ten particularly interesting studies to see what they can teach us.”
Editorial: Steve Jobs’ Retirement – Gamesindustry.biz. A look at the effects of Steve Job’s retirement from Apple on the company’s videogames portfolio. An interest perspective on probably the biggest tech news of the week.
Internet
Comedy Podcast Inside News Corp. Feasts on a Scandal – The New York Times. The Bugle is a fantastic comedy podcast – probably the best out there. This article looks at how it’s been able to openly mock Murdoch and News International over the phone hacking scandal despite being owned by the company. Seriously though, you should listen to the Bugle.
Inside the secret world of hackers – The Guardian. ”Computer hackers are frequently denigrated as mere digital pranksters. But some are now finding they have the power to change the world for good.”
Science
Do You Suffer From Decision Fatigue? – The New York Times. Mental fatigue is something we all know, but that same problem happens when you try and make decisions:”The more choices you make throughout the day, the harder each one becomes for your brain.” A really nice, long read.
History and Politics
The Beer Archaeologist - Smithsonian Magazine. I’m quite into beers and wines (who isn’t?), so this article about ancient beverages is a fantastic read. It examines the significance of beers and other drinks, especially in relation to how society forms. Damn cool.

Oh where, oh where did my little dog go? Oh where oh where can he be?
Come back to us soon Sam!
On the topic of the Bugle, if Darkwhitehair still reads our little publication, I’m sure he’ll be replying to this ‘ere thread real soon like. In fact, I dare him, double-dog dare ‘em!
Sorry to hear you’re not writing anymore Sam, I’ve always enjoyed your Sunday Supplements! Good luck and good that you’ll still be around :)
We’ll miss you Sam!
Thanks guys! :)
No Wallpaper Wednesdays, fewer Music Mondays, and now this?! John, pay people more money! They need it! Nay, they deserve it!
