The Wii Slim is a Thing, but Only in Europe
Nintendo appears to be going after the few people who don’t have a Wii yet. The European ones anyway.
Their thinking seems to be that the sticking points keeping the few people who haven’t bought one yet away were that the thing was too big and too backwards compatible. Yes, in addition to losing weight the new model Wii will lose the ability to play Gamecube games.
Feel free to put your own “un-duct-taping one of the Gamecubes” joke here.
The system will be bundled with one Wii Motion Plus controller, Wii Sports and Wii Party.
The one really good detail about the redesign I see is the move to horizontal only. I’ve always thought the Wii looked kind of dumb on its little angled stand.
Nintendo has said the redesign is for Europe only at this point. I’m not sure if anyone will be too broken up by missing out on this, or if anyone in Europe will really care either. With its successor already announced and major titles starting to dry up I’m not sure if solving a problem that didn’t exist will really give the system the shot in the arm Nintendo thinks the Wii needs.
