Konami’s Jubeat Released in America and UK as Jukebeat
Konami’s track record when bringing games from their musical “Bemani” series to Western shores isn’t exactly spectacular, but I still get my hopes up whenever they try.
Wednesday, Jukebeat was released on the American and UK iTunes App Stores, as a Universal app (meaning it’s designed to work natively on iPad as well as iPhone). This is the localized version of one of Japan’s relatively-newer Bemani titles, Jubeat (pronounced “You-beat”), which has been well-received by the Bemani community since its release.
Jukebeat’s premise is really easy to pick up: You’ve got a four-by-four grid of squares on-screen, and they light up gradually in time with a song playing in the background. The idea is to tap the squares, on beat, when they’re fully-lit. It’s very simple, but incredibly difficult once you get to the higher difficulty levels.
The app itself is free, and comes with three songs to start. If you dig it, you can pick up some extra song packs (there are four currently) for $3.99 apiece.
If you’re into music games, check this out. Pick up one or two song packs while you’re at it, so Konami sees they can make some money by localizing more Bemani.
