Europe to Receive Retail Monkey Island Collection
In a press release earlier this week, LucasArts announced a new retail collection for one of their flagship series: Monkey Island.
More specifically, the recent remastered/revamped versions of The Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge will be bundled together for old fans and new players alike. In addition to both games, the bundle will also include the remastered soundtrack, concept art for the special editions, and even concept art from the canceled Monkey Island movie that was going to be produced by Lucas-owned Industrial Light and Magic.
And worry not, purists! Both remakes feature a toggle that will allow you to play the games as originally presented, in all their old-school graphics glory.
Gamepro contacted LucasArts about the possibility of a Stateside release, and was told:
“Right now the Monkey Island Special Edition Collection is a bit of an experimental product for us to really gauge consumer appetite for a bundle like this. As such, it’s being released in a very focused market, that being Europe. We’re always interested in making sure our products reach the widest possible audience, so we’ll see how it’s received in Europe and base our future decisions from there.”
The Monkey Island bundle will hit shelves on September 9, and will be available for XBox 360, PlayStation 3, and PC.
Personally, my fingers and toes are crossed that it will do well enough that we’ll see them release their other old games again – because they sure don’t seem to like dealing with Steam and the like to make it happen. < /soapbox >

I am a bad person because I will buy this despite already owning digital copies because I have an immense fear of losing all my DLC when the console switch happens.
