EA Killing Off Servers for Some Old Games
They say all good things must come to and end. In this case it’s more mediocre and outdated things coming to an end.
EA has announced that they will be shutting down the servers for more than a dozen of their older games, mostly sports titles from several years ago, in the near future. EA says these games account for less than one percent of “peak online players” across all their titles, so it won’t affect too many people. But still, could be kind of a downer for the few people hanging on the games they like. And achievement whores. I guess they’ll be bummed too.
Anyway, here’s the list:
August 11
- Army of Two for 360 and PS3 (as well as the demo)
- Battlefield 2142 demo for PC
- Battlefield 2: Modern Combat for 360 (as well as the demo)
- Medal of Honor Airborne for PSP
- Medal of Honor Heroes 2 for PSP and Wii
- NASCAR 09 for 360 and PS3 (in North America)
- NCAA Basketball 10 for 360 and PS3
- NCAA Football 10 for 360 and PS3
- Need for Speed Most Wanted for 360 and PC
- Need for Speed Undercover for PSP
- Skate for 360 and PS3
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 10 for 360, PS3, PSP and Wii
- Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 demo for 360 and PS3
October 1
- Madden 10 for 360 and PS3
- NHL 10 for 360 and PS3
So if you are a fan of any of these old sports games of average shooters from a few years ago you might want to get a few quick rounds in during the next couple weeks. I doubt there’s going to be any candlelight vigils or guys keeping a server up weeks later like Halo 2 got.
