GOG.com Opens Hidden Gems Sale with Sanitarium
Good Old Games is keeping the summer sales going even as Steam is winding theirs down. Their Summer Hidden Gems promo will feature one game a day, today through July 25, at a 60 percent discount, similar to the Wednesday Hidden Gem feature they’ve run off and on for some time now.
The first game up is Sanitarium, an excellent but often overlooked point-and-click adventure from the late ’90s. If nothing else it’s one of the few good horror-themed point-and-clicks, so if that piques your interest you can grab it today for only $3.99.
And since I doubt The Witcher 2 will show up in the sale, and there really isn’t any point in discounting the already free games in the catalog, all the games in the sale will either run $3.99 (down from $9.99) like today’s deal, or $2.39 (down from $5.99) for the lower price games. And of course, all games in the promo and on their site in general are DRM free.
It’s good to see them trying to shine some light on the lesser known games in their catalog, even if it is self-serving. You know, with the money and whatnot.
But a thought occurred to me: Why are all the sales around Christmas and the 4th of July? Christmas I can understand, as everyone is trying to rake in a few more bucks before the end of the year. But mid-summer? I guess there just aren’t many major releases coming out, which shouldn’t affect GOG.
Please, videogame retailers, spread your sales out over the year. People with poor impulse control on stuff less than $5 (yours truly included) will thank you.
