Steam Invites Gamers to Summer Camp

Valve and Steam have one of their legendary sales going on for the next week-and-a-half, but this time with a fun meta/ARG twist.

The Steam Summer Camp Sale has gamers taking part in camp activities and earning achievements in various Steam games for tickets, reminiscent of the great Portal 2 potato hunt. But instead of helping unlock a game marginally earlier, these tickets can be cashed in for fabulous prizes! Well, some DLC packs anyway.

There are maps and outfits for dozens of games, the requisite Team Fortress 2 item (that itself is a reference to an epic party), Portal 2 costumes and even a free game, Alien Breed 2: Assault. All of the prizes (so far) cost three tickets.

A new round of achievements, and thus tickets, will be available each day. While few, if any, people will have all the games needed to try to get all of the tickets, every game with a ticket that day is one of the daily deals with an even larger mark down from the overarching sale.

So if you’re looking for something to do between now and July 10, and have a few spare bucks to fill in some gaps in your Steam library to play along, the sale sounds like a fun way to beat the heat.
