The Nukezilla Sunday Supplement – June 5th 2011
Every Sunday we’re going to post links to articles we think are interesting from the last week. Sundays are usually very quiet around here, so this seems like the best day to do it. We’re going to link to articles on range of subjects, including videogames, technology, movies, geek culture and much, much more.
Videogames
Metro: Last Light won’t be dumbed down, will be improved – Ars Technica. Metro 2033 was a very fun game (if not for a rubbish ending) and Ars checks out the newest version, Metro: Last Light. There’s not stacks of info, but plenty of cool stuff.
Summer Overlord: Evil genius – Bits N Bytes Gaming. Each week this writer talks about a tycoon/management game. In this well-written and humourous article, he looks at Evil Genius, a game where you’re a monstrous, comic book-style bad guy.
Technology
Small Change – The New Yorker. I may have posted this before, but it’s a great read. Malcolm Gladwell argues that technology such as Twitter and Facebook don’t enable the revolutions we’re seeing around the world.
TV & Movies
Questions for Steve Coogan – Slate. Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon are well-known faces in the UK, but they’re jumping to America with a 90-minute cut of “The Trip“. Here, Slate interviews Coogan. You can even listen to it if you’re feeling lazy.
Are video games now more sophisticated than cinema? – The Guardian. ”Video games such as LA Noire have led to claims that games are overtaking films in terms of sophistication. But can they ever really go as deep as cinema?”
Science
Science and the Race for the South Pole – The New York Times. ”In time for the 100th anniversary of the conquest of the South Pole, a history of Antarctic exploration through the lens of science.”
Are Helicopters Safer Than Cars? – Slate. Now that’s a question.

omigosh a sunday where I’m actually awake early enough before work to read some of these on the day they were intended to be read!
