33 Thousand People Play Monopoly At The Same Time, Break Record
Sometimes, press releases are interesting. EA have just announced that using their Facebook game MONOPOLY Millionaires, the record for the most simultaneous games of Monopoly (technically spelled MONOPOLY, but I can’t read that in anything other than a shouty-voice) has been broken.
The record was set when, between 8:30 to 8:40 a.m. PST on April 7th this year, 32,976 people played MONOPOLY Millionaires. That day was set up as “Global MONOPOLY Day” and produced some interesting facts. Apparently, during that 24 hour period, as well as breaking the above Guinness World Records title:
- More than 1.6 million game sessions were played
- More than 50 million in Monopoly money was collected for rent
- 36 million dice were rolled
- Over 2.5 million houses were built
- 5.6 million players passed “Go”
Some people said things of little importance in the official press release. They used words and phrases such as “innovative”, “the game brand”, “a new and expanded audience” and “re-invent the play experience”. How exciting.

A joyous day.
Oh John you almost got me! I was about to care about this and then I saw it was a facebook game!
I shall echo Super D’s apathy by saying,”Meh.”
