The NGP might be renamed the PSVita at E3

File this one firmly under rumour but it appears some information might have been leaked about Sony’s next handheld, currently known as the NGP. In a blogspot post on Mega Rock Blog that has now been taken down, two images were leaked of the NGP, now proudly sporting PSVita branding.

In the comments to another post, they were described by the author Hugo Miramontes as “prepared graphics for E3″. According to Joystiq, before that blog was locked down, he had left an apology in place of the old posts:

This has to be one of the stupidest things I’ve ever done. I don’t know what I was thinking. I’m sorry. I really am.

Is he owning up to a hoax or a leak, though? It’s difficult to tell, though the images themselves have the ring of authenticity to these eyes. The name “Vita” or “Veta” has some past form, too, as even before the NGP announcement it was bandied about by a few news sources as a codename for Sony’s next handheld project.

For my tastes, it’s just not manly enough. If this turns out true, how am I going to be able to ask for it by name, now? If they’re going to rename it, at least call it something like the PSGrit or PSRock. Yeah! Grr! I’m a man.
