Phoenix Wright Film is a Real Thing that is Happening

As reported earlier this week, there was some speculation that a film based on Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney could be in the works. Japanese director Takashi Miike (Crows Zero, Thirteen Assassins) mentioned in passing to the Huffington Post that he was working on a courtroom drama film based on a game. Let’s face it: it’s a pretty narrow genre, so the rumour was looking good. Now Capcom has confirmed that he was indeed referring to our favourite pointy-haired defence attorney.

To be produced by Nippon Television Network, details are quite scarce at the moment but there are some casting details. Hiroki Narimiya, who some might recognise as a star of Yakuza 4, takes the role of Phoenix Wright. Also making an appearance is rival attorney Miles Edgeworth, played by Takumi Saito and assistant Maya Fey, by Mirei Kiritani. The release is set for next Spring.

Whether the film will ever see light of day outside of Japan is unknown. Even trickier to answer is whether Takashi Miike will be able to capture the bizarre courtroom antics of Phoenix Wright and successfully squeeze it into movie form. Still, if he wants to try, I’ve got no objections. See what I did there? Objections? Oh, just write your comments.
