Quakecon 2011 Registration Opens Tonight
Ah, Dallas in August. Where it’s 90 degrees with 80 percent humidity at 10:00 a.m. But more importantly it’s where every year thousands of gamers get together for one of the best, and sadly few remaining, large-scale LAN parties.
Quakecon is headed back to the Hilton Anatole hotel this August 4-7. Those wanting to get in on the action should head over to the Quakecon website tonight at 7:00 p.m. Central time (the best time zone) to get in on registration as soon as it opens.
While the event will still be free to anyone who registers, it looks like last year’s “Quakecon done Quick” trial run was a success, as there are several paying options this time around.
First up is the “BYOC Select-a-Seat Package,” which costs $20 and does the following:
- Grants the right to pick and reserve your spot in the Bring Your Own Computer LAN party
- Quakecon T-shirt
- Rage themed mousepad
Next is the “Swag Pack,” which runs a little higher at $35. This pack gets the buyer:
- Two t-shirts (one Quakecon, one Rage themed)
- A Skyrim lithograph signed by members of the dev team at Bethesda
- A pack of Rage, Skyrim, and Prey 2 zipper pulls
Finally is the return of the “Quakecon done Quick Package,” which costs $50 and will be limited to 200, first come, first serve. It includes:
- Pick and reserve a spot in the BYOC
- “Express lane fast-pass” BYOC registration on site
- “Express lane fast-pass” to cut in line for every speaker and event throughout the weekend
- Reserved seating at events for QdQ buyers
- Special Rage mousepad signed and numbered by Rage Creative Director Tim Willits
- A limited edition Quakecon 2011 zipper pull
Not sure what the deal with all those zipper pulls is, but the deals look ok if you are so inclined. Shirts are always hard to come by down there, especially if you don’t wear one of the more common sizes. Not sure about the seat reservation thing though. Me and my friends always just picked a spot then threw bags or whatever else over the other spots at the table to hold it. Worked for us.
The countdown is already running on the registration site though, so head on over in a couple hours if you plan on getting on of the special packages. Sounds like they might go fast.
