Sometimes PR Folks Can Be Totally Awesome
Everyone loves to trash the games industry’s Public Relations professionals in with a broad kind of general distrust and disliking. Sure, there are some agencies and individuals that make poor decisions on how to “support” the launch and reception of their games, but lately I’ve had some great experiences with games PR reps and I thought I’d share a few.
One of our “secret passions” is reading the rantings releases of Aubrey Norris, formerly of Southpeak now working for Deep Silver publishers of the upcoming Dead Island. Aubrey’s already been outed as a wonderfully off-beat rep who refers to the games press as “dude” and whose press releases could be mistaken for the ramblings of a madwoman. Thankfully, she’s kept her unique voice and style intact with the transition from the Peak to the Silver. A couple of months ago I tried contacting Aubrey for a belated copy of Two Worlds II and her colleague very politely informed me of her transition and offered us a copy of TWII for review along with some very helpful tips. A review for TWII is coming soon, but in a format that’s entirely new for NZ. I hope you like it.
Finally, with all of this week’s gab surrounding The Witcher 2‘s release I considered paying full price for a retail or Steam copy of the game. On a lark, I contacted their PR rep, someone who we’ve been in contact with for an E3 appointment already. No less than 2 minutes later he sent us review code redeemable through GOG. I thought that was a pretty amazing response on a Saturday afternoon. The game’s been downloaded, all 9.5 gigabytes and I’m dying to check it out. Now if I could only drag myself away from all of those 1940s corpses and foot chases, maybe I’d be able to judge the witchosity of the popular sequel.

It’s nice to see game reps realising the potential of good relationships with the gaming press.
And Witcher 2 is perfect, except for the patching and installation issues I had. And antivirus problems. And getting stuck in rooms.
Aside from that, very worthwhile to look at.
I want all you guys to see how DISTINGUISHED my comment is. look at it. LOOK AT IT.
Feel distinguished by reflection fo my glory.
I wonder what this even looks like…
PR reps that work to inform retail stores get it especially hard because they’re not always well informed or they’re too informed and super scared to say anything. I’ve teased them when I catch them in a store and ask really tough questions just to watch them sweat.
I like that distinguish. very classy. I think editing isn’t working though…
This is a comment a PLEBIAN would make to make sure it’s filtering nice.
