Atari Classics Available for iOS
I’m a big fan of gaming history, so I was delighted to read earlier this week that Atari was releasing 100 of their classic games on the iOS. The games — 18 arcade games and the remaining 82 from the Atari 2600 — utilize the touch screen to control, and some include a multiplayer option via a Bluetooth connection.
While the initial app download is free, most of the games are sold in four game bundles for 99 cents. The games for the most part bundled by genre — I bought the adventure games, natch — but the free app download comes with a fully-functional version of Pong. All of the games can be unlocked in bulk for $14.99.
On a personal note: while I’m having fun with it, it was clearly designed to be played on an iPad — Pong is rather small, and I was squinting with the phone close to my face while playing Adventure. But if any of you do have an iPad, you may want to go ahead and spend $100 on this sweet, sweet iCADE, which turns your iPad into a mini Atari arcade cabinet, so you can have the full-on retro gaming experience.
