[Interpretive Dance] Mega Man Universe Cancelled

Artist’s Statement:

This performance comes from my great distress at hearing that Mega Man Universe, the “make-your-own Mega Man game” game, has been canceled. What it would’ve become was a playground for the creative among us who thought they could craft a perfect game world with it. Hearing about its demise is like hearing of the death of a planet. My somber dance reflects the pain I feel for the death of that world.

I am draped in a ceremonial shawl with colors consistent to the chassis of everyone’s favorite Capcom-created robot. The shattered, disorganized box of LEGOs represents the creativity that should’ve been used in this game, which has now been lost in the sands of time. The pixellation at the beginning of the video represents some shit about videogames or something. I hope by seeing this bleak, melancholy spectacle, you’ve learned something about my sorrow.

Jenny Rouse Says:

Oh. This is deep. The color of the shawl representing both the Blue Bomber and the undeniable hopelessness and sorrow surrounding us all at the death of the seemingly undefeatable Mega Man. That we cannot simply spread our arms and rid ourselves of the sorrowful cloak is a testament to how deeply entrenched Mega Man is in our collective subconscious. The weeping violins and the box of shattered Legos represent, of course, the loss of an undeniable part of our childhood.

Adushan Govender Says:

I’m not one to be negative, but you knew it would happen. An awesome concept featuring an iconic video game character? Nope, not in my lifetime!

Also, more nudity needed.

Ace Flibble Says:

A good point very, very well made.

Faye Lanks Says:

I can’t wait to see a nukestravaganza with a budget looks like after we can donate towards them with our NZP. As it stands, I am well impressed.

Brett Parsons Says:

What a glorious start to the day’s festivities! Nicely done, Jon. Nicely done indeed.
