Torchlight MMO to be Subscription Free

It’s always great to hear that a game you’re excited about will be a whole lot cheaper. That’s just the case with the Torchlight MMO, the online game will not feature subscription fees.

Max Schaefer, CEO of Runic Games, announced the news in an interview with Charge Shot. Schaefer cited World of Warcraft as one of the reasons for avoiding fees. “You can’t really approach any MMO project without taking into account World of Warcraft“. Schaefer explained that he doesn’t “think really anyone can do [subscriptions] anymore because pretty much everyone that does subscriptions has one for WoW“.

He also jokingly talked about the release of another of Blizzards’ games Diablo 3, saying “Of course we’re going to buy one Day One and it’s going to slow us down and all that – ‘cause we’re just as much fans as anyone”.

You’re starting to annoy me Blizzard. You delay your own awesome games and now you’re delaying other awesome games. Damn you Blizzard. Damn you.

Remember how they said Torchlight 2 would be a MMO and sales of Torchlight would fund it? I won’t hold my breath for the Torchlight MMO to be subscription free. Of course I would be happy if Runic Games proved me wrong.
