Resident Evil 4/Code: Veronica Getting HD Re-Releases

The latest issue of Japanese gaming rag Famitsu (via AndriaSang) has revealed Capcom will be re-releasing Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil Code: Veronica in HD in a collection titled “Resident Evil Revival Selection: HD Remastered.” Apparently the magazine only shows a few comparison pics taken from previous releases and the remastered versions. It should also be noted that the version of Code: Veronica included is the Director’s Cut while RE4 will have its “Separate Ways” expansion in tow. Capcom will likely reveal more concrete details at their annual Captivate event in April.

Sure, we’ve seen both of these games before on multiple occasions (Code: Veronica to a lesser extent), but this will be our first time seeing them in HD. Resident Evil 4 was the swan-song of Shinji Mikami’s work on the franchise. It’s widely regarded as the best in the series (by this author included) and seeing as how Mikami created the series to begin with, I guess you could say things came full-circle.

I’ve been itching to play Resident Evil 4 again lately, so I’m all-in for this.

Don’t give a flying fuck about RE4, but a chance to play Code: Veronica again gets a big double-thumbs-up from me. I’ve still got three copies of it (on Dreamcast, though I never had a Dreamcast; C:VX on PS2, though I don’t have a working PS2 any more; a Japanese copy of C:VX on PS2, though I’ve never had a machine capable of playing that). For me, Code: Veronica marks the end of Resident Evil, turned to balls after that as far as I’m concerned. It’ll be nice to boot it up again.

Dunno how they can do an HD version of it without completely remaking every model though, its polycount was barely above Resi 3′s.

4 was pretty fun, even if It felt nothing like prior RE games and had escort sections, but we are really not very far removed from the Wii edition. I would have been more excited to see a remake of RE2.
