Sony Europe Trademarks “Fiv5″, Linked to Quantic Dream
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has registered a trademark for something called “Fiv5“. Several development team members of French studio Quantic Dream reference a project called “Five” on their personal LinkedIn profiles. While Quantic Dream owns the Heavy Rain IP, SCEE oversaw its development, so this is naturally believed to be the studio’s next project. The patent is indeed for use with computer/videogame software.
It may be just a title (not to mention a terrible one), but it does bring one thing to mind: director, David Fincher’s 1995 classic serial-killer thriller, Se7en (aka the only thing that will ever be able to get away with that ridiculous naming convention). Given the subject matter of both Heavy Rain and QD’s previous title, Farenheit (Indigo Prophecy in the US) we know studio head, David Cage has an affinity for serial-killer narratives much like Mr. Fincher.
Of course, Cage has admitted that the last trademark linked to his team was a red herring, so this could be just the same. He’s also said he wants to do something different next and (assuming I’m not reading too much into this), Fiv5 would be pretty similar.
But hey, if it works out, maybe Quantic Dream can do an interactive biography of NeoGAF. I even have the perfect title: The Gaming Forum.

I’d care more if David Cage hadn’t been acting quite like a giant tool lately. Also if Heavy Rain was a bit better I’d care more about the next game he was making.
Shame really because the first half of Faherenheit was really great.
