Europe Gets Final Fantasy VI Re-release, I Get Jealous

The European Wii Virtual Console is getting some serious love tomorrow, in the form of the classic SNES RPG, Final Fantasy VI.

First released in 1994 (and not available in Europe until the PlayStation port in 2002), Final Fantasy VI follows an eclectic group of people who, wielding the powers inherited by a magical race known as Espers, fight to stop the evil Emperor Gestahl and the psychotic nihilist Kefka.

This is hardly the first time Final Fantasy VI has been re-released. As mentioned above, it was re-released on the original PlayStation, but it was also ported to the Game Boy Advance (aptly titled Final Fantasy VI Advance) in 2007, with new dungeons, new Espers, and a retooled musical score.

Final Fantasy VI will be released on the European Virtual Console on March 18, 2011. It will release for 900 Wii Points. There has been no mention of a North American release.

And here I thought this was already out in the US.

I’m still a bid sad FF4 didn’t sell on the DS, because they were planning to release a 3D version of FF5 and FF6 too.

@ParaParaKing: Nope. Japan didn’t even have it until the 15th or 16th of March. This is the first time it’s been released on Virtual Console.

I wasn’t aware FF4 didn’t sell particularly well on the DS (in Japan, I assume?), and I definitely didn’t know about the 3DS ports of FF5 and FF6, and now I’m kind of sad that I know what could have been but will not be.

Where do you get all this wonderful information?
