Parasite Eve Releasing on North American PSN Today

In news that may quite possibly excite only me, Square Enix has decided to allow Sony to port their first M-rated game to the North American PlayStation Network: Parasite Eve.

The folks over at Siliconera first reported the news back at the end of February (my bad), stating that the ESRB (truly, such a great source for knowing when/if something is being ported) had rated the game M for the PS3 and PSP. At that point, the release date was unknown. Yesterday, the release date was announced…and it’s today.

For those who may have missed it the first time around, Parasite Eve is a survival horror RPG from Square Enix (then Squaresoft) involving a cop named Aya Brea and her magical mitochondria. A freak occurrence has caused many of the occupants of Manhattan to spontaneously combust, and it is up to Aya to save humanity from the mutated horror known simply as Eve, as well as her spawn of Neo-Mitochondrial Creatures.

Oh, and did I mention that Parasite Eve is seeing this release exactly two weeks before the third entry in the series comes out in North American stores?

There has been no announcement as to whether or not Parasite Eve II will also be released on the PSN — for now, both Square Enix and the ESRB are silent. There has also been no confirmation of a European release.

Ace Flibble Says:

It’s not just you. I’ve got my fingers crossed for an EU release ASAP.

@Ace Flibble: I’m sure it will happen, eventually. Or is the EU PSN store remarkably different from the North American one in terms of actual game content?

I mean The 3rd Birthday has an EU release date of April 1; I don’t see why they wouldn’t make the original game(s, hopefully) available for download.

Stuvning Says:

Isn’t it possible just to login to PSN with a US account and buy it? I’m pretty sure I’ve done that in the past.

@Stuvning: Yes. Yes, it is. I don’t know if that would cause problems if you wanted to port it onto a PSP or anything (like I’ve done, because portable Parasite Eve rules).

Stuvning Says:

@Jenny Rouse: I see. Would you recommend the game to someone who has never played it before? I’m finding myself wanting to try it out.
*Damn, missed the reply-thingy

@Stuvning: Absolutely I would. It’s a PS1 game, so keep that one in mind, but I just looked at a gameplay video and it’s held up better than I remembered.
