Insomniac Getting All Social, Opens Facebook Game Division
First Harrison Ford is working on a Facebook game, and now Insomniac?! It seems so, with Insomniac announcing the opening of a new studio called Insomniac Click, who will be focusing on a Facebook game.
Despite not giving out any concrete details, Brian Hastings, Insomniac Games’ Chief Creative Officer, has made some promises. Hastings said that Insomniac Click will focus on “game play depth” as well as making things “easy to learn, hard to master”.
No doubt this is all in response to Harrison Ford’s genius move, but Hastings is claiming otherwise.
Hastings has said that “this is something we are passionate about”. He has also stated that “there will always be a market for what we call ‘core’ games,” meaning Ratchet and Clank won’t be turned into a Bejeweled clone just yet. More about the newly formed studio can be found here.
I love Insomniac Games, so hopefully they can make something that will stop my Facebook visits from turning into stalking sessions every single time.

I dunno how I feel about big developers taking on casual projects. Making small games is fine; I tend to prefer short games to anything over 8 hours anyway, it’s just… Facebook games? Isn’t that a step backwards in some regard? It’s as if a film director started making music videos for garage bands or if a model photographer started working with kebabs.
@UglyDuck: It depends really. If they stick to what they have said then I reckon it could be alright. I don’t know what developers can do with the Facebook platform but hopefully insomniac will be pushing it to the limits to actually create something decent. I say hopefully because really, it’s probably just going to end up a farmville clone in space.
