Batman: Arkham City Releasing October 18
Released in 2009 by Rocksteady Studios, Batman: Arkham Asylum was praised by both gaming sites and users alike with an average review score of 92 on Metacritic. In its first month alone, the game sold over 2 million copies. Arkham Asylum had a lot of depth to its gameplay and stayed true to the Batman universe and characters; There was very little to complain about. The game went on to win numerous awards for that year and Greatest Hits and Platinum Hits version were released last year.
Little bits of information, followed by a teaser, some trailers and previews have made their way into our hands for the sequel, Arkham City. Now we have a confirmed release date of October 18 in North America and October 21 in Europe.
Taking place one year after the events in Arkham Asylum, the former warden has become mayor of Gotham City. He’s bought out a large section of Gotham’s slums and turned the area into a prison with the inmates given free reign, so long as they do not try to escape; welcome to Arkham City. Without spoiling to much, the story includes famous characters such as Catwoman and Two-Face, with a few returning characters from the first game.
Arkham City will apparently improve on the gameplay in the previous title with its focus on stealth and beat-em-up action. Batman will have all sorts of gadgets at his disposal; a lot of them from the previous game but also some brand new ones, including smoke bombs and a device to track signals.
According to the developers Arkham City will incorproate more puzzle elements and the use of Detective Mode will have a bigger impact. Rocksteady’s art director David Hugo said that Detective Mode has been given a bit of a tweak, and the player will no longer be able to play the entire game in the mode; as was possible in Arkham Asylum.
