Things Get Worse For We Dare, “Misleading” Adverts to be Pulled
It’s more bad news for what was once my most anticipated title of 2011. PEGI has told Ubisoft to pull the frankly scandalous We Dare trailer from the internet or face immediate non-sexy sanctions.
Despite the game featuring content which PEGI deemed suitable for 12+, the trailer appears to show We Dare as a gateway to sexy fun time. PEGI released a statement saying that the trailer “misleads consumers as to its true nature.” Ubisoft have been given three days to respond to the charges. Currently Ubisoft have set the video to private on YouTube, and despite having watched it numerous times I want to watch it again now that it’s all forbidden and naughty. Oh Ubisoft, you marketing geniuses!
I wish I could ask Ubisoft what they were thinking when filming the advert. If they’d just released the game with a warning about adults only or some such then they probably could have gotten away with it. This is probably the best case of “sex selling” totally backfiring and leaving a publisher red-faced. I’ll still be trying to get my copy from a shady part of Europe though.
