Ubisoft Ruins my Party Plans, Cancels We Dare in the United Kingdom

We Dare, the game hoping to bring an untapped “hardcore” audience to the Wii, has been pulled from release in the United Kingdom.

We Dare had already raised eyebrows by releasing arguably one of the greatest trailers of recent times. I mean, come on, a game that features spanking as a game mechanic! We Dare was then handed a controversial twelve plus rating by PEGI which argued that the content was unrelated to the super sexy ad Ubisoft had released.

I’m more than a little disappointed by this news. I had already planned a party on Friday that would have just “coincidentally” had me breaking out a copy of We Dare that I had “accidentally” paid money for. Thankfully Ubisoft is hoping to release the game across Europe, so I’ll planning a road trip for my copy.

We’re British! We demand that our adverts be dripping in sexual content, our singing idols be skinny 16 year olds, our novels racy and exciting and our sexperts on talk shows and in papers designed for news. But goddamn so help me if a VIDEOGAME is released with sexual content because irregular fun will not be tolerated.

As much as the game looked like shovelware, that’s a shame. You’ll have to take a camera with you on your European romp since I won’t be able to join. Also a whisk.

@UglyDuck: It’s really odd since the actual gameplay is non-sexual. I can play Dragonage 2 naked, does that mean It should be pulled?

I can with, very little doubt, say that We Dare would have been released had it not been for the trailer.

UglyDuck Says:

@Ben Stead: Sorry, yes I got carried away with all the anger at the British public for being… well, I already went through that.

It’s absolutely been blown out of proportion. There’s no sexual content, the advert was more sexual than the game and that was aired without an age rating. There are board games that are worse and have no rating, there are kids TV shows that have more sexual content, there are actual literal sex and nudity in PG rated films in the UK. I mean, that’s the definition of hypocrisy. That’s the word’s home ground, that’s what it’s reserved for.

So sexual content is the wrong phrase. What I meant to say was ‘sexual themes’.

Ben Stead Says:

@UglyDuck: Haha, it’s alright.
Exactly the point. To be fair this wasn’t a case like Manhunt 2 where itw as outright refused classifaction, it’s more stupid tabloids being stupid tabloids.

It was a silly advert for sure, but seriously people need to get over themselves. Like you said, theres subtle sexual undertones in just about every kids show.
