3 Months in, iOS Game Outperforms Heavily Advertised XBLA Title
Infinity Blade in just three months has already outperformed Shadow Complex according to Mark Rein of Epic Games. Both were developed by Chair Entertainment and received critical acclaim upon release.
Talking to Joystiq, Rein didn’t go into into any specifics about how Infinity Blade had performed more favourably than Shadow Complex, but Joqstiq note Shadow Complex’s leaderboard has just over half a million names on it.
Rein mentioned that Shadow Complex was “well supported” by Microsoft. In its time on the XBLA Shadow Complex has been a deal of the week, something reserved for the big hitters of XBLA.
Reins’ words are a tiny consolation after a not so great GDC for XBLA.
Team Meat have criticised Microsoft for their handling of Super Meat Boy. Introversion, developers of Darwinia+, have also announced that they likely won’t release another XBLA game.
In my opinion Microsoft have to work really hard to repair their image when it comes to XBLA. With more and more game developers taking note of the potential of downloadable titles, Microsoft have to remain appealing to make sure their platform doesn’t lag behind. My suggestion? Remove Microsoft points, I just wanted one song from the Rock Band store, damn you for making me spend £17.50!

I’m liking this Bed Stead guy. Maybe it’s that smiley avatar looking a little bit like Olan Rogers, but whatever it is, he’s doing it for me so far…
Also, iOS games are popular and accessible, XBLA is pants. News!
@UglyDuck: Olan Rogers has a far better chin than I do.
@Ben Stead: Well, maybe. But Olan Rogers has a better everything than all of us.
