Test Drive 2 Facing Considerable Problems, Patch On its Way
It seems that Atari has been facing some issues with the open-world racing game, Test Drive Unlimited 2.
Threads on the game’s official forums show that players have been experiences online connectivity issues, corrupt save files and the game’s Club feature being placed offline for the time-being.
The Atari forum staff seem to be working hard to keep players up-to-date, with several forum posts spanning the issues. It seems that each platform (PC, PS3 and Xbox) is having their own problems, but they all seem to be suffering connection issues of some kind.
Other problems include a Lancia Delta with purple wheels, the map not showing the location of friends, pre-order codes not working properly. Bizarrely, it even seems that the German and Dutch flags are upside down. How these bugs got into the game I’ll never know.
Atari admins have said that patches are in-bound, with their goal to “have patches ready for QA testing on Wednesday, February 16th, and to allow 24 hours of testing to ensure that everything is 100% functional. If the fixes check out, we’ll submit the console patches to Microsoft and Sony for approval, and release the PC patch immediately.”
There’s a fair bit of difference between the problems on each system, so it’s probably worth checking out the forum post for each one (below). The forum mod is also on Twitter if you want to follow his updates there.
I got the game yesterday and haven’t really noticed any major problems. I’ve yet to really test it online, however. I should have an impressions post up sometime soon if you’re interested. It’s annoying that games get released in such a state, but I can’t fault Atari’s reaction, they’re obviously working pretty hard to sort stuff out.
