Come, Write For Nukezilla

I will use this pic as many times as I likeYou know that time you thought it would be fun to write for a videogame website, but the only one you could think of that didn’t suck and shared your ideals was Nukezilla? Well, I have some good news: We’re now actively seeking more writers to join our team!

And “team” really is the right word. After the immense success of the first Nukestravaganza we’ve shown that as a collective, we really can achieve more than we assumed.

However, our constant push for quality means we need more people-per-post than most other sites. And that’s where you come in. We want to grow.

If you’re wanting a little more exposure for your writing, experience beyond your personal blog, if you’re happy contributing to a growing beacon of hope in a industry that’s awful in so many ways, and you want to join an awesome team of people, keep reading.

We’re looking for people to help us cover and break news, as well as to people with voices that should be heard. In reality this breaks down into two roles:

  • Reporter - Perhaps the biggest focus at the moment is having Nukezilla cover all the the day’s big news. To do this requires Reporters. Your role would be to write up news on a regular basis, as well as research and break new stories.
  • Columnist or Feature writer – If you’re good at stringing sentences together and have some interesting opinions, we’d love to have you on staff. We’re always looking to increase the number of original, long-form articles we produce. We’re talking at least 500 words, ideally 1,200 per article. You can take a regular weekly slot, or write whenever you feel like it (within reason) on a topic of your choosing. If you have the skill or the opinion, we have the platform.

You’re not expected to stick rigidly to one role, but it’s more useful for us and tends to be more productive for writers to have some base level of expectation.

Whilst we cover expenses where we can, we don’t currently pay. Nukezilla won’t start paying writers until there is enough income to pay people fairly. I would rather have a team working for free, driven by passion, than have a team of people writing for $1 per post. To me the latter is insulting to writers, and almost forces the site in a direction I’m uncomfortable with.

This also means Nukezilla will continue to grow much slower than our competitors. But we don’t really care. Instead of producing 50 mediocre to poor articles in one day, we’d honestly prefer to have one or two great ones. The want for a billion news posts is why we built Wire.vg.

If I’ve failed in my attempts to put you off, send an email to me (wardrox [art] gmail [dirt] com) with any and all questions you may have.

While I am genuinely interested in applying, i doubt I could be of much help in reporting or editing. I’m more comfortable having my own little hole to live in when we get NZP blogs and leaving it to someone else to de ide if any of its content is worthy. I’m also pretty sure my contract with my job at [undisclosedsoftwareretailer] prohibits me having an official position in a game blog, hell I have nearly been fired for giving an interview for a website! Worth us nukezealots taking into account those typea of agreements.

I’m writing a couple of things but I want to give them breathing space to make sure they’re okay. My opinions change every month or so and I’ll suddenly decide I don’t like this or that has too much rhetoric or this is too plain.

I’m also trying to work out a regular work pattern before I dive in. I’ve been struggling to write anything the last week because you can’t force yourself to be creative, or you just put out shit (podcastle 13 artwork).
