Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood Title Update Forces Endless Update Loop

Since Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood was launched, several people (myself included) have had trouble playing the online component introduced to the Assassin’s Creed franchise.

The problem lies with the matchmaking, leaving players often searching endlessly for other players (known in the game as ‘Abstergo Agents’).

Ubisoft announced last month that a title update would be released that would, amongst other things, fix these matchmaking problems. This update has reached us now but unfortunately when attempting to download it players are entered into an update ‘loop’ which forces you to download the update, reboot the game and then download the update again. It seems that this problem is exclusive to 360 users, although I’ve yet to confirm that fully.

After some research, I found that the problem stretches beyond Europe, as Americans, Japanese and Australians have reported the same issue. Mr_Shade, a UK Forum Manager on the Ubisoft forums, posted a response earlier today:

Sounds like some strange issue somewhere.. I have reported your problems but in the mean time please follow advice below.
I suggest that people contact both Xbox support ( they can offer advice on how to stop these update “loops” – or see the post about clearing your cache) and also Ubisoft support in case it’s a wider issue.

Xbox Community Manager Graeme Boyd (‘AceyBongos’) posted on Twitter that Microsoft are “looking into this now”, so hopefully the issue will be sorted soon. A member of the Ubisoft forums also contacted Ubisoft, and was told that “[Brotherhood] should be back up and running in a few days”.

Worst case scenario? I won’t be searching for Abstergo agents for a while.

Update: I loaded up the game half an hour ago to find myself without having to download the update. I proceeded to play a game online, but only after several minutes of toiling with the still dodgy matchmaking system. It appears that the update has been removed, but I would expect it to be reinstated when Ubisoft figure out why it wasn’t working.

Update #2: Ubisoft Montreal’s Production Manager, Azaïzia Aymar, has confirmed via Twitter that the problem seems to have gone away.

#Assassin‘s Creed Brotherhood title update issues seem over. It looked like a server issue, thanks for you patience, have fun online!

As mentioned before, I accessed the game several hours after finding the problem without having to download the title update. I had downloaded it several times over, which would suggest it has been implemented, although from the time I have spent since being able to play online today, the matchmaking doesn’t show any sign of having been fixed.

OrangeGoblin Says:

Does this affect single player as well? Scared to boot up the game now…

@OrangeGoblin: This problem won’t affect playing the single-player, as you don’t need to be connected to Xbox Live to play the SP.

Adushan Govender Says:

They fixed the problem by getting rid of the update. That would be like..(pause for contemplation)..getting rid of all the gun violence by giving people knives. Does that work?

Well, it’s getting rid of the problem by making the game less functional.
