Writers Guild of America Nominates Fallout, Singularity, God of War for Best Game Writing Award

Every year an organization called the Writers Guild of America holds an event to award the best in television, radio, film and videogame writing.

Today the nominees for the WGA’s 2010 Writing Awards were announced; in the Videogame category, Fallout: New Vegas, God of War 3 and Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood are among the nominees. Personally, none of these come as a surprise: I was frequently astounded at the writing in New Vegas and God of War 3, and the overall story of Assassin’s Creed is fascinating, very worthy of nomination.

The other nominees are Prince of Persia, Star Wars: The Force Unleashed 2, and Singularity. I was a bit surprised to see Singularity among the nominations. Singularity came and went without much fanfare, and while I loved the hell out of the game (and its interesting time-bending story and gameplay mechanics) I didn’t think it had been on most people’s radars last year. All of the games listed are very deserving; it’ll be interesting to see who eventually takes the top honor.

The WGA Awards will be held on Saturday, February 5th simultaneously at the Renaissance Hollywood Hotel-Grand Ballroom in Los Angeles and the AXA Equitable Center in New York City. We’ll let you know who takes home the top prize.
