Tales From CES ’11: The “It Won’t Stay In Vegas” Party!

Another year, another Consumer Electronics Show in my hometown of Las Vegas, NV. Of course, with a mildly-gaming-related convention taking place so close to me, I can’t say no to a press pass each year.
Jeff Rubenstein from the PlayStation Blog helped me out with invites to a couple parties during the show (thanks!), and I took my camera along to make sure they were properly documented. This here is a gallery of photos from the “Won’t Stay In Vegas” party that took place at the Atomic Testing Museum on Friday night.
Gaze into these photos to see people wearing 3D glasses, Andy Dick wearing regular glasses, Malik Forte of the Ironstar Movement (he did that Nathan Drake Christmas rap a while back) wearing glasses and a man wearing a chain chomp beanie (and glasses).
Sony had games set up all over the place, with no shortage of 3D glasses or PlayStation Move controllers in the area. I played some Killzone 3 in 3D, then again in 2D but with the PlayStation Move sharp shooter, which was a bit tough to get the hang of. The 3D in Killzone 3 was very well-implemented, and especially impressive when looking down the sights of a gun. It’s a shame 3D televisions likely won’t be affordable any time this year.
I also got my hands on PixelJunk Shooter 2, which is probably the PS3 game I’m most excited about right now. Based on what I played, there will be much, much more to do in this sequel than there was in the original game. “Very soon” was the answer I received when I asked about a release date, so I’m quickly approaching “frothing at the mouth” status for this one.

Andy Dick? I guess all one needs to be a paid entertainer at CES is to grope a minor while carrying un-prescribed medications.
What was impressive while looking down a scope or down the sights in KZ3? Did it really create the sense of depth within a scope? Any sense of quasi tunnel vision on sights?
@ouched: Yeah, the depth was especially apparent when viewed down the sights of a gun. The game is very… visceral too so it’s one instance where I think the 3D really adds to it. The other main example I can think of being racing games in cockpit view.
Header image is so. baller.
Who is that creepy dude wearing a reindeer mask?
@NamelessTed: I thought that was you!
