Music Monday: Reformat The Planet

Welcome to Music Monday, the best way to start off your week! Each week Jon will profile a popular videogame-related musician/band to add to your music library.

Over the weekend, it was brought to my attention that an interesting documentary had made its way onto Hulu, a free video streaming service. Hopping over to the site I found Reformat The Planet, a documentary about chiptune music. I’ve talked about chiptune music before on Music Monday, and it’s a favorite genre of mine, so this movie was a real treat.

Reformat The Planet traces chiptune from its source (a handful of artists performing at a music venue in New York called The Tank) to the annual meeting of chiptune artists, the Blip Festival. People from all over the world, with all different views of how to make chiptune music, are on display. If this doesn’t make you want to know more about the scene, nothing will. It’s filled with some incredible performances, and even more incredible performers, and is a must-watch if you love videogame music in any form.

Unfortunately the film is only available to US audiences, meaning most of you probably won’t get the chance to see this for free. Luckily, I’m here to display the work of a few of the artist profiled in the film. Here’s Nullsleep, Bit Shifter, and Glomag to listen to this Monday.

Nullsleep: “Supernova Kiss”

Bit Shifter: “The World Has Turned And Left Me Here”

Glomag: “The Ecstacy of Gold”
