Trailer For Cool Voxel Based Arena Shooter Voxatron Emerges

With the steadily increasing processing power modern computers have at their disposal, they’re slowly being able to do more and more fun activities. One newly practical toy is voxels, 3D pixels, used as a graphics base.

Because every unit in 3D space needs its own voxel (much like every 2D cell on your monitor needs one pixel), the data requirements are quite large, causing voxels to have been rather impractical in the past.

Voxatron, a game being made by indie developers Lexaloffle Games, uses a 128x128x64 voxel display. If the trailer (above) is to be believed, it’s not half bad and can be expected later this year on PC, Mac and possibly more.

The game also fits in nicely with the modern 3D take on the 2D sprites, as seen in games like 3D Dot Game Heroes and Rocket Riot.

Love the stop motion animation feel to it as well. 0:41 where be blows the wall up looks amazing.
