Ubisoft Cans Always-On DRM, Still Requires Connection Every Boot

In a move that will result in cries of “finally” from gamers, Ubisoft has removed the always-on DRM that launched with massive problems with Assassin’s Creed 2. A post on Reddit highlights the “fix” with screenshots showing both AC2 and Splinter Cell: Conviction playing offline.

However, users still need to be online every time the games launches so it can be verified by Ubisoft’s servers. That’s still pretty annoying, but at least if your internet connection drops you won’t get cut off.

Assassin’s Creed 2 came out with the DRM only for its servers to be DDoS’d, meaning legitmate players were unable to play.
