R.U.S.E Controlled with Kinect on PC, Makes Kinect Look Cool

Kinect hacks are becoming far more exciting than actual Kinect games at the moment and it seems that there’s new ones cropping up every day. The latest sees Ubisoft’s RTS R.U.S.E on PC modded so the user can use his hands to play.

The video (posted below) shows some rather subtle but nifty controls, with the player using two hands, one held in place and the other moving to open a selection box in order to grab multiple units. You can do similar things with the PS3′s Move controller and there’s been touchscreen versions for the game too, but there’s just something about doing it all with your hands.

The video comes from German multi-touch and gesture developer Evoluce who make large table multi-touch screens. As well as this, the company has designed a PowerPoint controller using Kinect which, while not quite as cool, would be rather useful.

Kinect itself looks impressive, but the games out there right now do very little for me. I was playing Kinect Adventures this weekend and other than it being fun messing round at a friend’s house I didn’t really enjoy it all that much. Hopefully the games will pick up soon and we’ll get some proper titles.

From the work Evoluce has done, however, strategy games could get a new lease of life on consoles, although it might get a little tiresome. As Rock, Paper, Shotgun notes, it’d be nice if you could do this from the comfort of your sofa. Having to sit upright might get annoying and you could get really bad gorilla arm.

But still, it makes Kinect look like a thing I’d want, which is something.
